Who writes this
I'm Eirik Helgesen. I build Sereneo — the app, the backend, the website and everything on this blog. I'm not a therapist, a psychologist or a clinician of any kind, and nothing I write here is medical advice. What I can write about honestly is the design side: what happens when you try to make a wellbeing habit small enough to keep, and what a few weeks of your own notes can and can't tell you.
When something on this site touches on mental health, it's written from that angle and says where the line is. Where a claim would need evidence I don't have, it isn't made.
Why it's built the way it is
Most apps in this category are funded by attention. That leads somewhere specific — streaks so you feel bad about missing a day, notifications engineered to pull you back, a feed, and eventually advertising against data about how you feel. Sereneo is funded by a subscription, and that's the whole reason it can leave you alone.
So there are no streaks, no badges and no scores. The app icon never carries a badge number. At most two notifications a day, enforced in the code rather than promised in a settings screen. The paywall never interrupts you writing, and it never blurs a word you wrote — only what the app worked out from it.
The boring parts, done properly
An app that asks for your inner life should be able to show its working. Sereneo is run as a registered Norwegian sole proprietorship under the GDPR, with the Article 30 record, the Article 35 impact assessment, a processor register with signed agreements, and a breach procedure all actually written. Entries are encrypted under a key unique to you, hosted in the EU, and never used to train a model.
